Spring Break: Part I

Let's just start out by saying a BIG thank you to Mother Nature for allowing spring to make an appearance for spring break because here I sit in 4 layers of clothes (because we refuse to keep switching between heat and A/C) and the high was 50 today:(  Our number one goal for spring break was to spend as much time outside as possible.
Since Grandma and Grandpa Smyth were still here, we decided to head out on a hike behind the kids' school.  I would never have guessed that all this was back there.  Anyway, along the path we found a fallen tree that was very bouncy, so we had some balancing games.

At one point Daddy took Leo off his back and stood the carrier by another log so he would be out of the way of kids jumping off the bouncing tree, but Daddy ended up falling off and landed on a log connected to the one that Leo was by which sent him toppling to the ground over by his 'safe place'--poor Leo, but kinda funny!

We found some water, threw rocks and drug around some sticks...exciting hiking stuff.

Then we came back to the parking lot for a picnic lunch.  And then began the random games of the afternoon-racing down the hill, racing around the square cement, seeing who could run across the giant map painting on the asphalt in the least amount of steps, foursquare with a soccer ball, and hanging like monkeys.  Nothing planned or fancy, but it was great fun!

Leo especially loved the freedom of being let down to crawl in the grass and mulch.  He was in heaven!

This was another trip to Potawamec park with our good friends the Drakes.  The kids entertained themselves for hours playing kickball and crawling around on the rocks in a ditch.  We love this park because it has a fenced in toddler play area with that rubber floor instead of mulch.

 Ahh...more freedom!
