Leo's real birthday happened to land on the first day of Spring Break. Since my parents were still here, Aaron took the day off and we headed to the National Zoo. We just went at the end of last summer but it is huge and there was so much we hadn't been able to see. One of those things was the hippos-we were excited to show these to Leo since we joke that he is our little hippo, but we were disappointed to find out that they no longer have them. I guess it has been 10 years since we saw them there...oh well, Leo still enjoyed it. It happened to be African American Appreciation day at the Zoo, so the parking lot was full and we had to park in a neighborhood far away. That ended up working well tho since we brought a picnic lunch-we had a walking picnic as we hiked our way down.
We got a little carried away in this primate sculpture garden.
The Amazonia House was particularly amazing with it's prehistoric looking fish and cool second story rainforest.
Leo spent a lot of time waiting for this bird to respond to his "hi ducky, hi ducky!"
We ended the day with a celebratory McDonald's dinner-happy birthday Leo!
Leo has grown up so much this year. He was pretty silent until mid February and now he repeats anything we say. He's a big drinker and would surely consume a gallon of milk everyday if I let him. He also loves of be outside. He loves to dig with a shovel and the plants on my deck don't call him friend. He is probably the snuggliest toddler I've ever had and I'm so grateful, since he's our last. That's one thing that's kind of weird--having a 2 year old and not being in some stage of pregnancy or expecting a baby any day. We recently moved Leo in with Adam (so Jane could have a room instead of a closet) and we were expecting a rough transition with those two crazies together, but have been pleasantly surprised. They play and talk for maybe 10 or 15 minutes and when Adam says it's time to go to sleep, Leo immediately and obediently complies...so far. I told Aaron we should start giving all of our parental commands through Adam since Leo listens so well to him-ha!
