So we kind a piggy backed onto the Youth Trip this summer and followed them up to the Hill Cumorah Pageant and surrounding sites. We arrived just in time to walk through the Hill Cumorah visitor center (Christus and Joseph Smith in the Sacred Grove film) and find the youth before sitting down to watch the performance. Nephi on the boat, destruction of the Nephites, and appearance of the Savior were all quite impressive! The next morning we visited the Grandin Printing Press (with original brick and floors from when Joseph Smith himself walked through the building!!) to see where the Book of Mormon was reluctantly printed. The process was amazing! Then we were off to the Smith home. They lived with so little and did everything as a family, even building their house.
After finishing in the Smith home, we walked through the Sacred Grove. It was so peaceful.
Next we drove back to the Hill Cumorah to hike to the statue at the top which had been closed the night before.
Then we headed over to the Palmyra Temple to walk the grounds. There is a spot on the path from the Smith Home to the Sacred Grove where the trees part and you can see the temple (behind my head). It was a beautiful temple (and older than we remembered-2000) and we saw our youth again coming out from their baptism appointment.
We waved our goodbyes to the boys and stopped back in town at the LDS bookstore to get a magnet for our collection. We were completely surprised to find Aaron's Uncle, David Hocking from north Carolina, signing copies of his annotated version of the Book of Mormon that was on sale there. A great trip!
