A couple days before the 4th, Aaron found a flash deal for hotels in downtown DC. So decided to give a big city celebration a try. We did this once before when Porter was a toddler and our spot was too close to the airport. Airplanes were flying low over our heads every 90 seconds all night. Jane decorated outside for us before we left that morning.
Muna and David joined us in our spot just in front of the Washington Memorial, facing the Lincoln Monument. Over the next 4 humid hours (!?!?) we watched the entire park fill up and didn't play with any of the sports equipment we brought cause it was just too yucky.
It took every ounce of energy we could muster just to stand up and mostly smile for this family photo. The fireworks over the reflecting pool did not disappoint. And then we had a quick walk back to our hotel in stead of fighting hoards of traffic-win, win!
The next morning we waited in the lobby while Daddy and Andrew went to get the van (or got distracted at a Tesla dealership and forgot about the rest of us waiting in the lobby) and ate cereal and rode the escalators until the little boys got in trouble. I think we might take a chance with DC on the fourth again:)
