The end of June, we headed out to Arizona for our vacation extravaganza. Not a bad flight aside from the two extra hours on the tarmac while they fixed the lavatories on our second leg. The only things that made it bearable were the ipads in the back of each chair with games, movies and TV to watch.
The boys were quite happy to entertain their little cousin Ellie when we arrived even tho it was 10 o'clock for their bodies. This was one of the biggest reasons I was so excited for this trip-cousin time!!
Another cousin, Adam Smyth, no sooner walked through grandma and grandpa's door than he and Andrew got a Monopoly game started up.
After two quick nights at Grandma's we drove to California to stay with GG Smyth who just turned 94. And the next day we were joined by more cousins. Jane was especially thrilled to have more girls around!
Grandma did a special Primary Music Pictionary game Sunday afternoon. GG Smyth has always enjoyed music and loved hearing the great-grandkids sing. She was also very happy about spending time with this little fellow who she had never met. I'm so glad he warmed up the few days we were together. Now she feels like she 'knows' him:)
We had a nice family dinner that night and then were all together again the next day at Lacy Park for our 4th of July celebrations. A couple of us met our cousin Katherine at the park about 7am to stake out our picnic spot. That's the one crazy thing about this park. A bunch of old people, bogged down with blankets and rope, literally race to mark off their family area-it's really quite hilarious. We played and talked and took the kids to play bingo, and then ate and talked some more till it got dark and we watched the fireworks that were so close, they dropped ash in our eyes. It was great!
