A new family in our ward invited us to go to the Natural History Museum with them and since it's been about six years since our last visit there, we were excited. And so we began the first part of our adventure. We had to stop and say hi to the Dum-Dum statue (from Night at the Museum) on our way in. Then is was on to the animals.
These two finds were for Grandma Smyth. Above: Remnants of a meteor that crash landed in Arizona. Below: A giant amythest geode, Grandma's birth stone.
The beauty and range of colors in the gem collection was astounding. It's ridiculous that in a museum with so many obvious examples of Heavenly Father's handiwork, that there should also be a large exhibit about man's evolution from apes. Go figure!
Ahh...the second and unexpected part of our adventure. When we went into the museum, it was hot and humid, not a cloud in the sky. When we went to leave a couple hours later--complete downpour! And the kids loved it-probably way for thant he museum:) After waiting a few minutes and then realizing it wasn't going to let up any time soon, we embraced the adventure and ran from the museum back to the building our vans were parked under. The kids danced and sang and ran and puddlejumped for the next thirty minutes. The adults watching from under the overhang of the building giggled as they watched-it was great! It was a wet ride home (to say the least), but well worth it!
