We've had so many firsts this year with Grandma and Grandpa Smyth here and Thanksgiving was no exception. After hearing about all the Thanksgivings together out West, we got to have our own out East! The day before turkey day, Muna helped us make a turkey lunch with some adorable ideas she'd seen on line-turkey quesadillas, PB turkey, apple turkey, and graham cracker turkey.
That evening when G and G arrived, we had story time, but Leo didn't last long.
Jane made us some lovely place-cards with hand drawn turkeys on leaves.
Grandma made the sweet potatoes...and most of the rest of the meal.
Since we were having a late lunch meal, Leo ate early and had his regular nap, which means Mom got to eat her meal while it was hot-yes!
We had quite the committee hovering over the turkey to decide if it was done and how to cut it.
What would Thanksgiving be (or any day off for that matter) without a project? This year it was fabricating and painting a new light cover for the ceiling fan in the family room. The original was attacked several weeks earlier by a helium balloon on a string that somehow untightened it and sent it crashing to the floor nearly missing the heads of our dear children who were innocently enjoying a dance party underneath.
And this was an attempt to catch the children fighting about who got to sit by who-probably not the best way to show gratitude.
The feast!
I must say this year I am exceptionally grateful for the people at this table (and Papa and Porter) and the immeasurable help they have been to me as I've been struggling with back issues-driving distances to come do laundry and cleaning, spending the entire day before leaving on a trip caring for Adam and Leo, lifting Leo in and out of everything, multiple dinners, shuttling kids, and listening to my blubberings-it's been humbling and sincerely appreciated. So much to be grateful for:-)
