Daddy rang 40 in at the roller skating rink this year. He has fond memories of rollerblading as a kid and we recently found a few pairs at a thrift store. The whole family grooved for a few hours that Saturday morning, very fun.
Opening presents was funny because he had forgotten that he told me everything he wanted, so he was genuinely surprised that I had 'read his mind' and actually gotten things he wanted. (I didn't reveal my secret for a another week or so).
On Sunday when his family was able to come over we did a few activities-drawing Dad with a marker between our toes--some were pretty impressive! And then a match game with pictures of Dad at our kids' ages (and the ages written on other cards).
Last but not least we sang Happy Birthday to the old man with yes, you're seeing that right--candles stuck into a box of Cracklin Oat Bran, a sugar cereal with less sugar than a dessert and some whole grain to boot. Happy 40th!
